Sobia: Food or drink?

In the heart of El Sayeda Zeinab, the local café Al-Rahmany has been serving Sobia since 1920. One of the most Egyptian famous beverages especially during Ramadan is marked by plenty of local traditions in Egypt. You will be amazed to know that Al-Rahmany café has maintained its richness in coconut platter “Sobia” since ancient times and it is considered the first place to serve Sobia to be eaten. The owner and inventor of “Subia Al-Rahmani” Ahmed Saeed Al-Rahmani said: “What distinguishes it and the secret of its taste is lemon juice, that gives it a distinctive taste.” He also said that there are three types of it: Sweet Sobia, an intoxicating Sobia with lots of coconut and cinnamon, has a heavy texture. Sobia mezze is a starchy Sobia with cinnamon that has a pungent taste when tasting. Sobia glass, the most popular is Sobia, which has a sauce called ice cream sauce with all flavors, which increases the customer’s demand for it in the winter. The menu contains three different sizes, starting from 15 EGP to 40 EGP. It’s worth mentioning that Sobia is also a female Islamic name that means, “good and noble girl”.
